Malawi is a little known gem of a country nestled in the heart of central southern Africa, which offers a true African experience but without the number of tourists found in many countries
The Premier Malawi itinerary takes you to two of the most beautiful locations and lodges in the country and is ideal for those wanting a short safari followed by a relaxing (or active) beach experience but without the need for long flights to the Indian Ocean.
Day 1-4 (Mvuu Wilderness Lodge – 3 nights)
Upon arrival into Lilongwe you will be met and assisted through customs and immigration. Light aircraft flight to Liwonde National Park and Mvuu Wilderness Lodge.
The lodge, set on a small tributary of the Shire River, offers its guests a true African experience, with just five luxurious en-suite tents and three superior tents nestling amongst the trees.
Wildlife is abundant in Liwonde with a healthy population of Elephants, Hippo’s and Crocodiles, who are best viewed from a boat on the Shire River. Waterbuck wade in lagoons and marshes, and antelopes such the elegant sable, impala and bushback are around in good numbers. Small predators may be also be seen such as serval and jackal.
Days 4-9 (Kaya Mawa – 5 nights)
Light aircraft transfer heading northwards over Lake Malawi to Likoma Island and Kaya Mawa (meaning “maybe tomorrow” in the local dialect.
Often appearing in the top 10 list of the world’s most romantic destinations is the remarkable Kaya Mawa is a place of truly unique character on the southern tip of Likoma Island on Lake Malawi, the third largest fresh water lake in Africa at over 600km in length. Kaya Mawa is a wonderful way to experience the lake, its people and of course relax and enjoy lodge comforts!
For honeymooners Kaya Mawa boasts a honeymoon island, separated from the main camp by a private walkway - perfect for couples wanting that exclusive experience.
Activities at Kaya Mawa are plentiful and varied for guests to enjoy. Although many of the guests choose to make relaxation their main focus, there are other activities to keep guests busy including diving in one of the world’s top fresh water dive locations.
Day 9
Light aircraft transfer back to Lilongwe for your onward international flight.
