Malawi is a little known gem of a country nestled in the heart of central southern Africa, which offers a true African experience at a relatively low cost. This itinerary allows you to experience a safari in two parks, each with their own character and then to relax at one of the best island resorts in Africa, with flights between camps to maximize your time.

Itinerary

Days 1-4 (Kwena Lagoon 3 nights)
Upon arrival into Lilongwe International Airport, you will be met and assisted to your light aircraft charter for the 1 hour flight to Mfuwe, Zambia. On arrival into Mfuwe you will be met and transferred to Kwena Lagoon Camp.

Kwena is situated in the south of the South Luangwa National Park and consist of just eight en-suite tents, each with an indoor and outdoor shower and a central thatched dining area under the canopy of giant Ebony Trees.

South Luangwa is home to most of the big game; lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and hippo are abundant. It is notable for two endemic species: Thornicroft's Giraffe and Cookson's Wildebeest. Night drives reveal many fascinating mammals including civet, genet, mongooses, bushbaby, serval, porcupine and aardvark. For birding enthusiasts, over 400 hundred species of birds have been recorded in the Luangwa.

Days 4-7 (Mvuu Wilderness Lodge - 3 nights)
Light aircraft flight back to Lilongwe and onwards to Liwonde National Park and Mvuu Wilderness Lodge.

The lodge, set on a small tributary of the Shire River, offers its guests a true African experience, with just five luxurious en-suite tents and three superior tents nestling amongst the trees. Wildlife is abundant in Liwonde with a healthy population of Elephants, Hippo’s and Crocodiles, who are best viewed
from a boat on the Shire River. Waterbuck wade in lagoons and marshes, and antelopes such the elegant sable, impala and bushback are around in good numbers. Small predators may be also be seen such as serval and jackal.

Day 7-11 (Kaya Mawa - 4 nights)
Light aircraft flight to Likoma Island and Kaya Mawa
Often appearing in the top 10 list of the world’s most romantic destinations is the remarkable Kaya Mawa is a place of truly unique character on the southern tip of Likoma Island. It is a wonderful way to experience the lake, its people and of course relax and enjoy lodge comforts!

Kaya Mawa’s superb location, stunning accommodation and a wide range of activity options offer guests a memorable experience. The lodge consists of seven stone and teak framed thatched cottages set into a granite headland. All the cottages have private terraces with direct access to the water.

Day 11 Departure
Light aircraft flight to Lilongwe for your onward international flight.
