Itinerary
Zambia is a huge country and probably one of the least travelled and most rewarding wilderness destinations in Africa.
The Premier Zambia itinerary takes you to some of the remotest parts of Kafue National Park to visit two exceptional lodges, before finishing at the world famous Victoria Falls. The accommodation is outstanding, the locations truly remote and the wildlife viewing exceptional.
Arriving into Lusaka, you will be met and transferred by light aircraft to Lunga Airstrip, from where you take short road transfer to Lunga River Lodge.
Days 1-4 (Lunga River Lodge – 3 nights)
Lunga River Lodge is situated within a thin strip of woodland adjacent to the Lunga River. The lodge has six spacious thatched rooms with private decks that overlook the river, ensuring breathtaking views.
The habitat around Lunga is a haven for an extensive array of interesting bird species including Zambia’s only endemic bird, Chaplin’s Barbet. The dense population of hippo are regularly spaced in the clear, deep waters of the river. Beyond its banks lies a broad swathe of miombo woodland and grassland where herds of puku and impala are joined by rare sable antelope and Lichtenstein’s hartebeest. Lion and spotted hyaena occur in the area, whilst leopard find sanctuary in this mix of habitats.
Day 4-7 (Shumba Camp – 3 nights)
Light aircraft flight to Busanga Airstrip, then a helicopter transfer to Shumba Camp.
The Busanga Plains cover an area of approximately 750 sq km and Shumba is located in the centre of this wildlife paradise.
The camp comprises six spacious luxury safari tents on raised platforms with breathtaking views of the surrounding plains. A maximum of 12 guests can be accommodated at any one time and great emphasis has been placed on the “guided” experience - being led by qualified, enthusiastic people with in-depth knowledge of the area and its wildlife.
The plains are home to hundreds of red lechwe, ubiquitous puku, stately roan and the diminutive oribi. Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, herds of wildebeest, zebra and buffalo make for a full set of antelope. This wealth of game on the plains is also a big attraction for predators, including wild dog, cheetah and prides of lion.
Day 7-9 (The River Club – 2 nights)
From Shumba your helicopter transfer and light aircraft will take you Livingstone and the world famous Victoria Falls, where the mighty Zambezi tumbles into the gorge – an awesome sight and sound. Stay at The River Club or its sister camp Toka Leya and enjoy a wide range of activities
Day 9
Road transfer to Livingstone for your flight to Johannesburg and homeward.
