Kalamu Tented Camp

Kalamu Tented Camp lies on the banks of the Luangwa River in the remote southern sector of the South Luangwa National Park. Nestling under giant Fig, Mahogony and Ebony trees the views over the river and its sandy river valley, with its banks and fringing woodland, are stunning.

The camp has only four large comfortable Meru style tents each of which offers en-suite facilities and overlooks the river. The central area of Kalamu has a plunge pool and raised deck with a shaded bar and dining area with open boma.

The waters of the Luangwa River attract elephant, buffalo, puku, impala and baboon – their numbers increasing as other water sources dry up. The deeper pools and a nearby seasonal lagoon hold large pods of hippo and crocodiles. Of particular interest in the valley are Thornicroft’s Giraffe, a sub-species found only in the Luangwa Valley.

Game viewing activities for guests focus on the river with walks and day & night game drives exploring the banks and woodland.
